St. Joseph, what anguish must have filled your heart when you found out that Mary was with child, and you thought of ending your betrothal to her, to “put her away” quietly and not disgrace her. And what profound joy you must have experienced when the mystery of the Incarnation was revealed to you. By this sorrow and joy of yours, I ask that you walk with me through this painful time. You know the anguish and anger, the betrayal and humiliation I feel. Teach me how to surrender to the Lord the moments of painful confusion, to listen with my heart when the Spirit speaks to me so that, like you, I may accomplish all that the Lord has planned for me.
